Chris Evans Picks His Ultimate Avengers Team — and of Course Bucky Barnes Makes the Cut

By August 10, 2026

Scarlet Witch and Thor bring the power, Iron Man brings the vacation plans, and apparently Steve Rogers isn’t assembling an Avengers team without Bucky Barnes.

Chris Evans was given four slots to build the ultimate Avengers team around Steve Rogers.

He spent three of them making fairly rational strategic decisions.

The fourth?

Bucky Barnes.

Some choices are about power levels. Others are apparently about nearly a century of friendship and an adamantium arm.

During his FAN EXPO Boston panel, Evans was asked which four MCU heroes he would choose to join his Captain America on an ultimate five-person Avengers roster. He immediately started thinking through the question like someone who actually planned on winning the fight.

Chris Evans Starts With Scarlet Witch — Because Obviously

Evans’ first choice was Wanda Maximoff.

“You’d be a fool not to start with Scarlet Witch.”

Hard to argue with him there.

Evans pointed specifically to Wanda’s sheer power before adding Thor as his second choice, essentially stacking the roster with two characters capable of doing a truly unreasonable amount of damage.

Then came Iron Man.

Tony Stark obviously brings plenty to the battlefield himself, but Evans had another very important reason for adding him to the lineup.

After the team wins, Evans joked, Iron Man “knows all the good vacation spots.”

Priorities.

So at this point, Evans has Steve Rogers, Scarlet Witch, Thor and Iron Man.

That’s an objectively ridiculous amount of power packed into four people.

And then he had one spot left.

The Final Spot Goes to Bucky Barnes

Evans chose Bucky.

Not Hulk.

Not Captain Marvel.

Not Spider-Man.

Bucky Barnes.

And really, was Steve Rogers ever assembling his perfect team without him?

The Winter Soldier may not bring Wanda’s reality-warping abilities or Thor’s god-level power, but apparently Evans wasn’t building this roster entirely from a Marvel power-ranking spreadsheet.

He’s got his heavy hitters. He’s got Tony Stark’s brains, technology and apparently post-battle travel itinerary.

For the last spot, Steve gets Bucky.

Correct.

No notes.

No, This Doesn’t Confirm Anything About ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Before the conspiracy board comes out: Evans picking Bucky for a hypothetical Avengers team does not tell us anything about the plot of Avengers: Doomsday.

It is, however, particularly funny timing.

Elsewhere during his Boston appearance, Evans was asked about his favorite scenes with Sebastian Stan and immediately answered that he loved essentially all of them before reminiscing about their work together on Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Civil War. He then caught himself approaching spoiler territory and stopped talking before revealing whatever was on his mind.

So no, this fantasy roster isn’t evidence that Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes are getting the reunion Marvel fans have been waiting for.

It does tell us that when Chris Evans was handed the entire MCU and told to choose four people to stand beside Steve Rogers, one of those spots still belonged to Bucky.

Some things apparently don’t require much deliberation.
