Final Fantasy VII Revelation Reveals Vincent, Cid and the New FITS System

Square Enix just pulled back the curtain on more of its trilogy finale. A new PlayStation hands-on preview digs into Final Fantasy VII Revelation, and it’s loaded with combat details. Two fan favorites are now playable, and there’s a fresh customization system to unpack.

Vincent and Cid join Final Fantasy VII Revelation

Vincent is the flashier addition. He mixes precise gunplay with a monster transformation, so he can snipe from range or shift into a brutal beast form up close. It’s a fitting kit for the series’ most mysterious member.

Cid, meanwhile, takes to the skies. According to PlayStation’s hands-on, he specializes in aerial spear combat and chains attacks into moves like Dragon Spin, Hyper Dive and Ground Pound. Together, the pair widens the party’s options considerably.

Both are fan favorites, which raises the stakes. Vincent and Cid were beloved but optional in the 1997 original, so making them fully playable here is a real draw. For longtime fans, seeing them realized in this combat system is a genuine payoff.

How the new FITS system works

The big mechanical reveal is FITS — short for Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear. In practice, these outfits unlock different combat abilities depending on what a character wears. The demo, for example, featured a “Summoner FITS” that let Cloud call Ifrit, Shiva, Titan and other summons directly into the fight.

As a result, loadout choices could shape battles as much as your party does. That’s a clever twist on the trilogy’s already-deep combat.

When Final Fantasy VII Revelation arrives

The preview also confirmed the stakes. PlayStation’s session took place in the Whirlwind Maze and pitted the party against Jenova Death. Ultimately, Final Fantasy VII Revelation launches April 8, 2027, as a PlayStation 5 title, closing out the remake trilogy that began with Remake and Rebirth.
