Gears of War E-Day is playable right now for eligible fans. Early access opened today for certain players. The Coalition also released a launch gameplay trailer to mark the occasion.
Who can play Gears of War E-Day early
Access depends on your edition. Early access opened for Premium Edition players and for Game Pass subscribers who have the Premium Upgrade. As a result, those players can jump in ahead of the standard launch.
There is an important caveat, though. A standard Game Pass subscription alone does not meet the early-access requirement. Consequently, some subscribers will need the upgrade to play now.

What the launch trailer delivers
The new trailer sets the mood perfectly. It features Metallica’s “For Whom the Bell Tolls,” a fittingly intense track. Meanwhile, the footage showcases the prequel’s tone and action.
E-Day is a significant entry for the series. It serves as a prequel, depicting Emergence Day, the catastrophic event that defines the franchise. Therefore, longtime fans have been eager for this origin story.
The Gears of War series is an Xbox cornerstone. Its cover-based combat and gritty aesthetic helped define a generation of shooters. Notably, a new mainline entry is always a major event for the platform.
Early access has become a common launch strategy. It rewards dedicated buyers while building word of mouth ahead of the wider release. Consequently, the staggered rollout keeps the hype rolling.
For players without the required upgrade, the full launch is still coming. The early window is a head start, not the only way in. So no one eligible is left out for long, and the full release is only a short wait away.
Ultimately, E-Day’s arrival is a milestone for Xbox and for fans. With a slick trailer and early access live, the rollout is officially underway. For more, see recent Xbox news.
