Avengers: Endgame Reclaims the All-Time Worldwide Box Office Record

The Avengers Endgame record is back: its Encore rerelease pushed the film to roughly $2.92 billion worldwide, narrowly passing Avatar once again.

The Avengers Endgame record is official once again. Thanks to its Encore rerelease, the Marvel epic has reclaimed the all-time worldwide box office crown. It now sits narrowly ahead of Avatar.

How Avengers: Endgame reclaimed the record

The rerelease did the heavy lifting. According to TheWrap, Endgame added about $126 million across two weekends. As a result, its lifetime worldwide total climbed to roughly $2.92 billion.

That figure edges out Avatar. The margin is slim, but it is enough to put Endgame back on top. Notably, this record is measured without adjusting for inflation.

Why the Marvel-Avatar rivalry matters

These two films have traded the title before. Endgame first passed Avatar in 2019, only for an Avatar rerelease to reclaim it later. Consequently, this latest flip is the newest chapter in a long back-and-forth.

Rereleases have become the deciding factor. Both studios have used reissues to squeeze out extra grosses and chase the record. Therefore, the “all-time” crown has become a moving target.

The milestone is a big one for Marvel. Endgame capped the Infinity Saga and remains a cultural touchstone. Meanwhile, reclaiming the record keeps the film in the conversation years later.

It also speaks to the staying power of event cinema. A film from 2019 is still pulling audiences into theaters. So the nostalgia play clearly works when the title is big enough.

Of course, the figures remain estimates for now. Weekend numbers are reported before final totals are confirmed. Still, the gap appears durable enough to hold.

Fans, meanwhile, get a fresh reason to revisit a modern classic. The record flip puts Endgame back in the headlines and back on screens. In short, the rivalry is great for Marvel’s visibility.

Ultimately, Endgame versus Avatar is a rivalry that refuses to settle. For now, Marvel has the bragging rights back. For more, see the recent wave of theatrical rereleases.
