Camp is open. A24 and Peacock’s Crystal Lake, the long-gestating prequel to Friday the 13th, dropped all eight episodes on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2026. Here’s what it is, who’s in it, how the release works and where the early reviews landed.
Crystal Lake release details: all eight episodes at once
No weekly drip here. NBCUniversal confirmed the full season premiered Thursday, Oct. 15, exclusively on Peacock, with episodes 101 through 108 available immediately. It’s an A24 production billed as a Peacock Original.
Per Bloody Disgusting’s episode rundown, the titles are a love letter to the franchise’s own subtitle habit: “Camp Crystal,” “Part II,” “Part III,” “A New Beginning,” “The New Blood,” “Kill Them, Mommy,” “Friday…” and “The Final Chapter.” The same report puts the total runtime around six and a half hours.
What Crystal Lake is about
The series rewinds to before the machete. Pam Voorhees (Linda Cardellini) is a single mother still grieving her sickly son Jason, who drowned in the town lake about a year earlier. When two strangers turn up at her door asking about her past, a chain of disturbing events begins and the townspeople start wondering who Pam really is.
If you know the 1980 film, you know where this road leads. The tension in the prequel is watching Pam before she becomes the thing the campfire stories warn you about. The official trailer leans into it with Cardellini’s line: “I just have this feeling he’s still out there.”
Crystal Lake cast
- Linda Cardellini as Pam Voorhees
- William Catlett as Police Chief Levon
- Gwendolyn Sundstrom as Grace
- Cameron Scoggins as Officer Dorf
- Devin Kessler as Brianna, Levon’s sister
- Callum Vinson as young Jason Voorhees (recurring)
- Also recurring: Nick Cordileone, Joy Suprano, Danielle Kotch and Phoenix Parnevik
Cast and roles are per Peacock’s official cast guide. Roles for the remaining recurring players haven’t been detailed by the network.
Who made it
Brad Caleb Kane created, wrote and executive produced the series. The executive producer list also includes Marc Toberoff, Victor Miller, Robert M. Barsamian, Robert P. Barsamian, Stuart Manashil, Tyson Bidner, Michael Lennox and Roy Lee. Miller’s name matters to franchise historians: he wrote the original 1980 Friday the 13th, and the rights fight over that screenplay is a big part of why this prequel took so long to arrive.
Directing duties were split three ways: Michael Lennox handled episodes 1–3, Celine Held and Logan George took 4–6, and Quyen Tran closed out 7–8.
How the reviews are landing
Reviews went live Oct. 13, two days ahead of launch, and the early read was warm: Dark Horizons reported an 86% Rotten Tomatoes score from the first 28 notices. As more critics weighed in, that settled lower. As of Friday, Oct. 16, the Tomatometer sits at 75% from 55 reviews, with an 88% audience score. The recurring note across the positive reviews is Cardellini; the recurring note across the mixed ones is whether a prequel premise stretches across eight hours.
We haven’t reviewed the series yet, so take the scores as a temperature check rather than our verdict.
The NYCC warm-up
Peacock used New York Comic Con as the launchpad. The premiere episode screened Thursday, Oct. 8 on the Empire Stage with a panel featuring Kane, Cardellini, Catlett, Kessler, Scoggins, Sundstrom and Vinson, and a “Camp Crystal Lake” activation ran on the show floor all weekend, per Dread Central.
Is there a season 2?
Not yet. Peacock hasn’t announced a renewal, but Kane told Deadline he already has ideas for a second season, as Gizmodo relayed Friday. Given how the first film ends, there’s an obvious direction to go. We’ll update when Peacock says something official.
