Diablo Cody Says Jennifer’s Body 2 Will Make Megan Fox’s Demon More Sympathetic

Diablo Cody says Jennifer's Body 2 will dig into why Megan Fox's Jennifer is a sympathetic character. Here's what she said, and what's confirmed about the sequel so far.

By October 20, 2026

Diablo Cody isn’t done with Jennifer Check, and she wants you to feel for her this time. On the Petticoat Revolution podcast, the Jennifer’s Body writer said the sequel will dig into why Jennifer is a sympathetic character and what she has been through, as TheWrap first reported.

Cody said Jennifer has always been sympathetic to her, isolated and lonely both before and after she becomes a demon, and praised Megan Fox’s performance on both sides of that transformation. She also said the sequel is happening “imminently,” per Dread Central’s account of the episode.

What’s actually confirmed about Jennifer’s Body 2

Less than the internet would like. Cody has been talking about returning to the story since at least 2024, and in March 2026 she said publicly that she was writing the sequel, as Dread Central reported from her Storytelling 360 panel appearance in Los Angeles.

Beyond Cody’s involvement, the details are reports rather than announcements. Megan Fox’s return has been widely reported but not officially confirmed by a studio. Some outlets report that director Karyn Kusama is back and that Disney is behind the project; neither has been formally announced, and no production schedule or release window has been made public. Amanda Seyfried has said in interviews that she’d want to be involved, but she isn’t attached either.

From flop to cult classic

The renewed interest is a long way from 2009. Jennifer’s Body opened soft, grossed roughly $31.6 million worldwide on a reported $16 million budget and drew mixed-to-negative reviews. Cody has long said it was marketed to the wrong audience. Over the following decade, critics and fans reclaimed it as a sharp feminist horror-comedy about female friendship and the ways women’s pain gets ignored, which is exactly the angle Cody’s new comments lean into.
