Kirby and the World Beyond Is a New 3D Kirby for Switch 2

Kirby and the World Beyond is a new 3D Kirby adventure for Switch 2, arriving Spring 2027 — and this time Kirby's world may be artificial.

By September 19, 2026

Nintendo closed its September Direct with a treat for platformer fans. Kirby and the World Beyond is a brand-new 3D Kirby adventure, and it’s coming to Switch 2 in Spring 2027. It’s the follow-up many hoped for after Kirby and the Forgotten Land.

That pedigree is a big deal. The Forgotten Land, released in 2022, was Kirby’s first fully 3D platformer, and it became one of the series’ best-reviewed and best-selling entries. So a proper 3D sequel carries real expectations.

What Kirby and the World Beyond is about

The premise has a surprising twist. Kirby discovers that his world is, in some way, artificial. That revelation pushes him to explore the “World Beyond” — a realm outside everything he knows. It’s a bigger, stranger canvas than usual, and it gives the pink puffball a real mystery to chase.

That’s a slightly darker hook than Kirby usually offers. The series often hides surprising depth beneath its cheerful surface, though, so the “artificial world” angle fits the pattern well.

New abilities and a bigger world

Kirby isn’t going in unarmed. Alongside his classic Copy Abilities, he picks up sword powers this time. The footage leaned into open, exploratory 3D spaces, which suggests Nintendo is building on the Forgotten Land formula rather than replacing it. As a result, expect familiar charm with a fresh sense of scale.

Details are still light, of course. Nintendo showed the concept and the vibe, but held back specifics on structure and length. There was no word on co-op, either, which the Forgotten Land offered in a limited form.

Even so, the reveal landed. Kirby has quietly become one of Nintendo’s most reliable franchises, and a full 3D sequel is exactly what fans wanted to see next. Expect more details as Spring 2027 approaches.

When Kirby and the World Beyond launches

For now, the window is Spring 2027 on Switch 2. It was the closing note of Nintendo’s packed September Direct, and it’s easily one of its most intriguing reveals. Simply put, Kirby and the World Beyond is one to watch.
