Marvel Zombies Returns as Three Disney+ Specials, Starting With The Winter Soldier in 2027

Marvel Animation’s Marvel Zombies is shambling back to Disney+, this time as three all-new specials. Marvel Studios made it official during New York Comic Con 2026 on Thursday, October 8: Marvel Zombies: The Winter Soldier arrives at Halloween 2027, followed by The Fist of Khonshu in 2028 and The Last Guardian in 2029.

The Marvel Studios Instagram post keeps it short: “Starting Halloween 2027, Marvel Animation’s #MarvelZombies returns with all-new specials on Disney+.” The carousel opens on a title card for The Winter Soldier.

The Marvel Zombies specials, one per year through 2029

Marvel Zombies: The Winter Soldier (Halloween 2027) leads off, and it’s the only special Marvel’s post dates more specifically than a year, though on stage, with The Nerd Wire in the room, all three got Halloween dates.

The Fist of Khonshu (2028) is second up, per Marvel’s post. On stage, it was dated for Halloween 2028.

The Last Guardian (2029) closes out the run. Marvel’s own post lists only the year, but on stage it was dated for Halloween 2029, which matches GamesRadar+’s live blog.

Director Brian Andrews is back, GamesRadar+ reports, but there’s no cast yet

The reveal came during the “Up Next From Marvel Television and Marvel Animation” panel on the Empire Stage, according to the live blogs from GamesRadar+ and IGN, which both reported the three specials. GamesRadar+ described the specials as arriving “seemingly instead of season 2.”

GamesRadar+ also reported that Marvel’s Brad Winderbaum said director Brian Andrews returns, and that Winderbaum is keeping the identity of the Last Guardian secret. Per GamesRadar+’s live blog, the project is “about halfway through Animatics.”

Marvel hasn’t announced a voice cast for any of the three specials, nor running times or plot details, and its post dates only the first for Halloween even though all three got Halloween dates on stage. It also hasn’t said who the Last Guardian is, or whether a second season of the series is still planned.

The same panel also brought word that Marvel Television’s live-action series Zodiac is coming to Disney+ in 2028, and that Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2 arrives January 13, 2027.
