Project Shamrock: Jason Eisener’s Fan Film Ties Halloween III to Michael Myers

Jason Eisener's unofficial, five-minute fan film Project Shamrock links Halloween III's Silver Shamrock to Michael Myers, and it's free on YouTube.

First, the fine print: Project Shamrock: The Secret Origins of Michael Myers Exposed is an unofficial, not-for-profit fan film. It is not canon, and it is not a Halloween franchise sequel. It is, however, free to watch on its director’s own YouTube channel and about five minutes long.

The short is written, directed and edited by Jason Eisener, the filmmaker behind Hobo with a Shotgun, Kids vs. Aliens, Treevenge and the V/H/S/2 segment “Slumber Party Alien Abduction.” It was first covered on October 22 by Fangoria.

What it is

The film is framed as a lost 1960s industrial film about a secret Silver Shamrock program, codenamed “Project Shamrock,” that involves children, one of them a young Michael Myers. That is the bridge between Halloween III: Season of the Witch‘s Silver Shamrock and the Michael Myers mythology, and it nods to the Cult of Thorn from Halloween 5 and The Curse of Michael Myers along the way.

It was shot over two days on 8mm and 16mm in Dartmouth and Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Who’s behind it

Dave Brunt, who starred in Eisener’s original Hobo with a Shotgun fake trailer, is in the cast as the Janitor. Producers are Jen Yamato and Ian Matheson. Andy Appelle is cinematographer and co-producer, Steven Kostanski made the prosthetic head, Andrew Gordon Macpherson handled music and sound, and Katie McQueston handled production design and SFX supervision.

Why it’s not canon

Because this is a fan project, it sits outside the official Halloween timeline, so don’t expect it to change anything in the movies. What it does is play in the gap between Halloween III, the entry without Michael Myers, and the rest of the series.
