Ridley Scott is getting the band back together, sort of. The Hollywood Reporter‘s Borys Kit reports that Aaron Guzikowski has been tapped to write a new, tightly guarded Alien feature for 20th Century Studios and Scott.
Guzikowski wrote Denis Villeneuve’s Prisoners and the Papillon remake with Rami Malek and Charlie Hunnam, and created Sundance’s The Red Road with Jason Momoa. He also created HBO Max’s Raised by Wolves, which is the reunion hook here: Scott executive produced that series and directed its first two episodes, his first time directing TV.
What we know about the project
Scott is producing, not directing, at this point, alongside Michael Pruss through Scott Free. No director is attached. J.R. Young oversees the project for 20th Century, and there is no release date or timeline.
Where it sits in the Alien timeline
This is not a sequel to 2024’s Alien: Romulus. THR says that follow-up remains in limbo. According to the outlet’s sources, the new film is related to Scott’s Prometheus (2012) and Alien: Covenant (2017), and the connective tissue is the android David, played by Michael Fassbender. Fassbender is not attached at this stage.
The August breadcrumb
If this sounds familiar, it should. As we reported in August, Scott told the Los Angeles Times that a third prequel continuing David’s story was in development, though he described it as early and it was not greenlit. Friday’s report is the first concrete step we’ve seen toward that idea: a writer.
Guzikowski’s busy slate
Guzikowski is also writing an original sci-fi feature for Jon Watts at 20th, adapting a Philip K. Dick story for Sony, and writing the animated Death Stranding feature.
What we don’t know yet
Plot details are under wraps, and there’s no director, no cast and no release date. The report rests on THR’s sources, so treat the David connection as reported rather than confirmed. We’ll update this story as Scott’s team or 20th Century says more.
