Netflix is taking another swing at a video game adaptation, and this one comes with a familiar name attached. According to TheWrap, Donald Glover is set to write, direct, executive produce and star in a live-action series based on PUBG: Battlegrounds. Variety, Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter are among the outlets also reporting the project.
Glover’s brother Stephen Glover is writing and executive producing, per TheWrap. The brothers previously worked together on Atlanta and Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Krafton, the South Korean publisher behind the player-versus-player shooter, is involved through its entertainment arm LV3H, whose Taeseok Jang and Sujin Lee are executive producers. Michael Schaefer of Neon TV and Fam Udeorji of Gilga are also listed as executive producers.
The series is in development, with no release date, cast beyond Glover, or plot details announced. TheWrap notes that PUBG has far less built-in story than many game properties Netflix has adapted, so what the show actually is remains an open question. Netflix has several other game adaptations in the pipeline.
