Netflix is keeping the embassy open. The Diplomat has been renewed for a fifth season, according to TheWrap, which reports the streamer announced the news Thursday morning; Deadline, The Hollywood Reporter, Variety and TVLine also report the renewal.
No premiere date or other Season 5 details have been set, TheWrap reports, with more to come later. The pickup follows Season 4, which launched October 15. TheWrap reports it debuted with 4.8 million views, rose to 5.5 million in its second week and ranked No. 3 among English-language Netflix shows.
Keri Russell stars as Ambassador Kate Wyler, with Rufus Sewell as Vice President Hal Wyler, Allison Janney as President Grace Penn and Bradley Whitford as First Gentleman Todd Penn; Janney and Whitford were added as series regulars. Debora Cahn created the series and executive produces with Russell, Janice Williams, Alex Graves, Peter Noah and Eli Attie.
