Marvel’s Wolverine Has Sold 2.4 Million Copies, Sony Says, as PlayStation Raises Its Forecast

Sony's Q2 results put Marvel's Wolverine at 2.4 million copies sold as of Nov. 4 and raise the full-year PlayStation forecast two weeks before GTA 6 lands.

By November 5, 2026

Sony has put a number on Marvel’s Wolverine for the first time: 2.4 million copies sold worldwide as of Nov. 4, according to Game World Observer and FullCleared’s coverage of Sony’s fiscal second-quarter earnings presentation. Both outlets say it took roughly 50 days from the Sept. 15 PS5 launch.

The Wolverine number

Per FullCleared, Wolverine is the first title listed on Sony’s first-party sell-through table. Worth noting: the quarter itself (July 1 to Sept. 30) only captures the game’s first two weeks, so the 2.4 million is a to-date figure rather than a quarterly one. Insomniac’s game is a PS5 exclusive.

The quarter and the forecast

The numbers behind it are in Sony’s own results, filed with the SEC on Nov. 5. Game & Network Services sales rose 9 percent year over year to 1,208.5 billion yen (roughly $7.9 billion), and the segment’s operating income jumped 83 percent to 220.1 billion yen (about $1.4 billion). Game World Observer reports Sony shipped 2.6 million PS5 consoles in the quarter, 1.4 million fewer than a year earlier, bringing lifetime PS5 shipments to 97.9 million; Sony’s filing confirms hardware sales fell on lower unit volume without giving the figure.

Sony also lifted its full-year Game & Network Services outlook for the second time this fiscal year, to 4,830 billion yen in sales and 700 billion yen in operating income, up from the 4,540 billion and 660 billion yen it forecast in July. Company-wide, Sony now expects 13 trillion yen in sales and 1.87 trillion yen in operating income for the year ending March 2027.

Why the timing matters

The raised forecast lands two weeks before Grand Theft Auto VI arrives on PS5, which is set to dominate the holiday sales picture. We’ve covered the PS5 pre-download details if you’re prepping your storage, and the latest preorder estimate if you want a sense of the scale.
