Grand Theft Auto VI preorders have passed an estimated $750 million, according to analytics firm Sensor Tower, as reported by Dexerto and Forbes. It is an outside estimate, not a figure from Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive.
What Sensor Tower is estimating
Per Dexerto’s write-up of the firm’s tracker, Sensor Tower puts digital preorders at roughly 7.71 million copies across PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, worth about $751 million. PlayStation accounts for around 74 percent of that (about 5.74 million copies, roughly $559 million), with Xbox making up the rest. Dexerto says the total climbed by more than $100 million over the previous two weeks.
Two important limits: the numbers cover digital preorders only, so physical copies are not in there, and there is no PC version to count. Sensor Tower’s public tracker page did not show the figure or a methodology when we checked it, so treat the exact total as a ballpark.
The GTA 5 comparison
The obvious yardstick is Grand Theft Auto V, which Take-Two said generated more than $800 million in its first 24 hours in September 2013. Forbes’ Paul Tassi notes that preorder revenue is realized at launch, so GTA 6 could clear that bar on day one before counting a single launch-day purchase. The comparison isn’t clean, though: one is a pre-launch estimate, the other an official first-day sales figure, and GTA 6 carries an $80 base price against $60 for its predecessor.
What Take-Two has actually said
Take-Two has not published a dollar or unit total for preorders. CEO Strauss Zelnick has described preorder levels as “unprecedented and astonishing” in an interview with Variety, while stressing that preorders are not sales.
GTA 6 launches Nov. 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Preloading begins Nov. 10; our rundown of the PS5 pre-download is here, and we tracked the earlier preorder spike after the extended look in this report.
