Focker-In-Law “A Look Inside” Featurette: Ariana Grande Takes Jack’s Lie Detector Test — and Grills Greg

Universal's second Focker-In-Law featurette finally gets Ben Stiller in the chair — and puts Ariana Grande's Olivia on Jack Byrnes' polygraph, where she's the one asking Greg the questions. What's actually in "A Look Inside," ahead of Nov. 25.

Okay, so Universal clearly read the room. Monday’s Focker-In-Law featurette was all new kids and no Stiller. Friday’s follow-up, “A Look Inside,” fixes that in a hurry: Ben Stiller is in the interview chair, Ariana Grande is next to him, and the whole thing is basically a 102-second argument that Olivia Jones can survive anything Jack Byrnes ever put Greg Focker through. Including the basement.

Yes, the lie detector is back

If you have seen Meet the Parents even once, you know the polygraph. Jack’s basement, Greg strapped in, sweat everywhere. It’s here again, and the difference is who’s in the chair. Olivia clocks the machine, gets asked if she’d like to give it a shot, and doesn’t even hesitate: “Absolutely.”

Then she does something Greg never managed in three movies. Wired up, with Jack (Robert De Niro) watching, she turns to her boyfriend’s father and offers: “Hey, do you want to ask me some questions, Greg?” He goes with “Do you think I hold Henry emotionally hostage?” Her answer, needle presumably steady: “To be totally honest, yes. I mean, come on, Greg. Calling him, kissing him on the lips.” Twenty-six years of karma, delivered in one take.

And in case anyone missed the point, there’s a bike-ride scene — Jack and Olivia in matching pink “Le Tour de Jacques” jerseys, which is a detail I need more of — where De Niro does the two-fingers-to-the-eyes, I’ll-be-watching-you bit, and the featurette literally splits the screen with the 2000 original. Next shot: Olivia pointing right back at him.

Stiller and Grande, on camera this time

Stiller’s lower third reads “Greg Focker”/Producer, and his take on coming back to the guy after all this time is pretty simple: “It’s interesting when you’ve done a few movies with the same character … and to think about what happens to them.” The bigger pitch is that the franchise works because it’s everyone’s family. “Everyone watches it and says, ‘Oh, that’s my dysfunctional, loving but insane and wild family.'”

Grande is credited as “Ariana Grande-Butera” again, same as in Monday’s “Basecamp Connections” featurette, and she has the sharpest read on Greg in the whole piece. Why is the guy who got tortured by his father-in-law now torturing his son’s girlfriend? “There’s a fair amount of generational trauma … that Greg maybe inherited from his own experiences with Jack Byrnes.” Olivia, she says, “shakes things up a little bit for the Focker family.” And then the line that’ll end up on a poster somewhere: “We need good old comedies. Let’s bring them back.”

Everything else we spotted

Worth noting who doesn’t talk: De Niro shows up only in footage, and nobody from the Booksmart contingent gets a mic. Monday was about the ensemble. This one is Olivia versus the old guard, and Universal is not being subtle about which fight it wants you to buy a ticket for.

Release details

Focker-In-Law is written and directed by John Hamburg, from a story by Hamburg, Ilana Glazer and Austen Earl. Universal Pictures and Paramount Pictures present. It opens in theaters Wednesday, November 25, 2026 — the night before Thanksgiving, which feels about right for a movie about surviving your in-laws. More at the official site.
