At the Dead City SDCC panel, the franchise’s best double act split the vote on fandom’s most persistent ship.
The question had to be asked. At the Walking Dead: Dead City panel at San Diego Comic-Con, a fan asked whether the rumors are true — whether Season 3 finally brings Maggie and Negan together.
Lauren Cohan took it head-on, with affection for the askers and zero ambiguity in the answer. People always want these pairings to happen, she said — “you guys don’t wanna see this happen.” Her case: “What we get to do in The Walking Dead — having two enemies work together and have a story — is so much more interesting” than a hookup.
Then the door closed: “But also just… no.”
Jeffrey Dean Morgan, sitting beside her, waited a beat and delivered his dissent: “I’m gonna say yes” — before defusing it with a joke that had the room laughing.
The exchange captures why the pair remain the franchise’s most watchable duo: the tension the show runs on is the same one fans keep trying to resolve, and Cohan’s answer suggests Dead City intends to keep it exactly where it is — unresolved, hostile, and load-bearing.
The Nerd Wire recorded the exchange at the panel.
