Paul Walter Hauser plays Carl, an Umbrella scientist — and in the trailer, he’s the one delivering the ominous message that sets the tone for the whole thing.
Why this casting works
Hauser has quietly become one of the most reliable “something is deeply wrong here” performers working. He can play warm and play menacing without changing his face much, which is precisely what a corporate scientist in a Resident Evil story requires — the person explaining the containment protocol who is very clearly not going to mention the part that matters.
Cregger, coming off Weapons, has built a reputation for horror that takes its time before it turns. Hauser fits that register.
