Old School RuneScape’s Player-Designed Wyrmscraig Island Is Out Now

What began as a player-design competition with more than 1,400 submissions has come down to one winning island.

Wyrmscraig, designed by community member Gnome, is now live in Old School RuneScape. The game’s first player-designed island features a new quest, a repeatable boss, a high-level Slayer Master and new activities for skillers and PvM players alike.

Players will need 62 Sailing to reach Wyrmscraig. Some activities are available immediately, but completing the new Experienced-level quest, Fallen From Grace, unlocks the island’s repeatable boss and Sunstone Golem Crafting.

The quest requires 62 Sailing, 60 Crafting, 47 Runecraft and 53 Mining. It begins with Cormac in the village of Auchrie, where a disappearance sends players searching for answers—and investigating the mystery of the Mad Angel.

First up is Wyrmscraig’s new Slayer Master, Mortimer.

Mortimer can be found in the island’s caverns after players begin Fallen From Grace. Unlocking him requires either 70 Slayer and 100 Combat, or 99 Slayer regardless of Combat level.

Rather than assigning one task, Mortimer offers players a choice between two assignments, each with a unique modifier—or “Mortifier.” After completing 50 tasks for him, players unlock a third option.

Those modifiers can increase Slayer Points, change task quantities, boost Slayer XP, improve Clue Scroll drop rates or increase the chance of hitting a Superior creature’s unique drop table. Mortimer exclusively assigns creatures with Superior variants, giving players another route toward rare items like the Imbued Heart.

That extra control comes with a price: skipping one of Mortimer’s assignments costs 100 Slayer Points, and his tasks cannot be reset through Turael.

On the skilling side, Wyrmscraig introduces Sunstone Golem Crafting, unlocked after completing Fallen From Grace.

Designed as an alternative to Glassblowing, the activity combines Mining and Crafting. Players mine Sunstone, carve a Golem from all four sides, create and insert a Sunstone Core, and then dress the finished construct in Hunter fur.

Yes, dressing the Golem is required. Apparently even magical stone constructs deserve a cozy little outfit.

The activity can be played actively by maintaining Mining momentum for additional Sunstone and XP, or more casually by gathering resources from a slower, more AFK-friendly Sunstone Monolith. Players can also earn the Jeweller’s Chisel, which improves the success rate when cutting certain gems and carries a chance to produce two gems at once.

SPEAKING OF GOAT FURS

We hunt goats now. These are the rules.

Goat Hunting is a new training method aimed at players between levels 60 and 80 Hunter. It requires 60 Hunter and completion of Sheep Herder.

Players construct a pit and lure Wyrmscraig’s gentle, unsuspecting livestock to their demise using a cattleprod. For anyone who finds that insufficiently dramatic, Telekinetic Grab and Dark Lure can also be used to send the goats tumbling into the pit.

The activity awards Hunter XP, Goat Horns and Goat Fur—which can then be draped over the Golem you just chiseled into existence. There is also a new pet named Mr McGroot, because apparently the goat pit needed an emotional counterweight.

Now that we have covered talking skeletons, goat pits and fashion-conscious Golems, it is time to save the best for last: the Mad Angel.

After completing Fallen From Grace, players can return to the Cathedral and challenge a repeatable version of the quest’s boss. Jagex describes the Mad Angel as a mid-level PvM encounter intended as a next step for players who have already earned their Fire Cape.

Among the boss’s rewards is Hallowfell, a two-handed greatsword requiring 75 Attack. Every swing can cleave through two additional nearby enemies, hitting as many as three targets in total—making it particularly useful for Slayer and multi-target combat training.

The Mad Angel can also drop boss teleport scrolls, Granite Dust, a boss jar and a new pet.
