Insomniac Games brought Marvel’s Wolverine back into the spotlight at San Diego Comic-Con with a new story trailer — and it opened with a statement: an enraged Logan in a confrontation with Jean Grey.
When does Marvel’s Wolverine come out?
September 15, 2026, exclusively on PlayStation 5. The game was built specifically for PS5 and is not coming to PS4.
What’s in the new trailer
The trailer’s centerpiece is the Jean Grey confrontation — Logan, visibly furious, facing a character with as much history with him as anyone in the X-Men. Insomniac didn’t explain the story context, and we’re not going to guess at it.
It also delivered the clearest look yet at who Logan will be fighting:
- The Hand — the ninja clan, in their trademark red
- Lady Deathstrike — positioned as one of the story’s major antagonists
Who are the Hand?
A centuries-old order of assassin-ninjas in Marvel comics, tied most closely to Daredevil and Elektra but long entangled with Wolverine, whose history in Japan runs deep. They’re less a single villain than an endless supply of them — which makes them a natural fit for a game built around Logan’s claws.
Who is Lady Deathstrike?
Yuriko Oyama, one of Wolverine’s most personal enemies. Her body was rebuilt with cybernetics and adamantium claws of her own, making her a deliberate mirror of Logan — same weapons, same near-unkillable durability, opposite motives. If you’re building a Wolverine game and you want an antagonist who can physically match him, she’s the obvious pick, and a genuinely good one.
What kind of game is it?
A single-player, narrative-driven action-adventure — notably not open world, unlike Insomniac’s Spider-Man games. Liam McIntyre voices Logan.
The bigger picture
This is the Spider-Man studio working with a character whose stories run considerably darker, and the trailer leans into it. Insomniac has spent years proving it understands Marvel characters as characters, not just movesets; Wolverine is the hardest test of that yet.
