The movie and TV reveals get the Hall H spotlight. But San Diego Comic-Con 2026 also delivered a busy comics slate. DC rolled out a run of new #1s from its Next Level line. Meanwhile, Marvel laid out a post-Armageddon roadmap that reshuffles the Avengers and X-Men. Here’s what’s coming, who’s making it, and when it hits shelves.
DC’s Next Level line stacks its fall slate
First, DC filled out the fall of its Next Level line. Three new ongoings all launch Sept. 2. Joshua Williamson and Hayden Sherman handle Legion of Super-Heroes. Kyle Higgins writes Teen Titans, with art by Daniele Di Nicuolo. And The Doom Patrol pairs writer Darcy Van Poelgeest with artist Niko Henrichon. DC first revealed the trio in June. Then it anchored them at the Next Level panel during the show.
Each book is a fresh entry point rather than a continuation. That’s the whole point of the Next Level branding. In short, these are jumping-on issues for readers who don’t want decades of continuity homework.
James Harren’s The Demon is the standout SDCC reveal
The genuinely new Comic-Con reveal, however, was The Demon. Eisner-winning creator James Harren (Ultramega) writes and draws a new Etrigan ongoing. Dave Stewart colors it, Clayton Cowles letters it, and Harren handles the main cover. The Demon #1 arrives Oct. 7. Naturally, the pitch leans into medieval mythology and occult horror — a strong fit for Harren’s monster-heavy style.
Marvel maps its post-Armageddon universe
Over at Marvel, the news flowed out of Avengers: Armageddon. That event’s finale — issue #5, from Chip Zdarsky, Delio Diaz and Frank Alpizar — lands in October.
The biggest launch, though, is Maximum X-Men. Christopher Yost and Tony S. Daniel start the new ongoing in December. With the Avengers gone after Armageddon, the X-Men step up to protect Earth-616. Storm leads the new roster. It also includes Wolverine, Colossus, Bishop, Iceman, Psylocke, Firestar and Justice.
Marvel is also chasing a milestone. Joshua Williamson writes the ongoing Iron Man series, which shifts to twice-monthly shipping with alternating arcs. It starts with “The Incarcerated Iron Man” in Iron Man #12. From there, it builds to the landmark Iron Man #700 in March 2027. Carmen Carnero draws the even-numbered issues, where Tony Stark sits behind bars. Meanwhile, the odd issues follow Rhodey’s “War Machines.”
Two spin-offs for the pull list
Two more spin-offs round out Marvel’s slate. First, Ashley Allen and Phil Noto give MJ Watson her own five-issue Mary Jane series. Second, Indiana Jones and the Sword of Pandemonium runs five issues, picking up after Raiders of the Lost Ark.
What’s next
From here, the fall calendar fills in fast. DC’s three Next Level ongoings hit Sept. 2. Then The Demon follows on Oct. 7. On Marvel’s side, the Avengers: Armageddon finale arrives in October. After that, Maximum X-Men launches in December, ahead of the march to Iron Man #700 next March. As usual, full covers and prices will land in the monthly solicitations before each launch.
