Jim Carrey’s Live-Action Jetsons Movie Is Officially Moving Forward at Warner Bros.

It's happening: Jim Carrey's live-action Jetsons movie is officially moving forward at Warner Bros., with Carrey set as George Jetson. Here's what we know.

By August 6, 2026

The Jim Carrey Jetsons movie is really happening. Warner Bros. Discovery has confirmed that a live-action adaptation of the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon The Jetsons is officially moving forward, with Jim Carrey attached to star as George Jetson.

The confirmation came in an unusual place: WBD’s Q2 2026 shareholder letter, which named the long-developing project as part of the studio’s active pipeline. After years of the Jetsons reboot floating in development limbo, that’s the first formal sign it’s actually happening — and it puts Carrey back in a leading film role.

Jim Carrey is George Jetson

The headline is Carrey himself. This marks his first film role outside the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise in more than a decade — a genuine return for one of comedy’s biggest live-action stars. Casting Carrey as the harried futuristic everyman George Jetson is the kind of high-concept, big-swing comedy role he built his career on.

Who’s directing the Jim Carrey Jetsons movie?

Colin Trevorrow — director of the first three Jurassic World films — is in talks to helm the project, with Joe Epstein attached as co-writer. Trevorrow isn’t locked yet, so treat that as in-progress rather than final, but it points to a filmmaker with blockbuster-scale experience steering the reboot.

Why it matters

The Jetsons has been one of Hollywood’s great white whales. The 1962 series — a Space Age sitcom about a family in a gadget-filled future — has been eyed for a big-screen adaptation for decades, with multiple attempts stalling out. Getting it into the active pipeline at all is notable, and pairing it with a star of Carrey’s wattage is the strongest signal yet that this version could actually reach theaters.

What’s still unknown

Plenty. There’s no release date beyond a window later than 2027, Trevorrow’s deal isn’t finalized, and the rest of the Jetson family hasn’t been cast. What’s confirmed is the foundation: the project is moving forward, and Jim Carrey is George Jetson. We’ll update as more comes together.
