If you saw the rumor that Matt Reeves is shooting The Batman Part II and Part III back-to-back, James Gunn wants you to know it isn’t true. Asked on Threads to confirm or deny the speculation, the DC Studios co-CEO kept it short: “I can deny.”
That’s about as direct as it gets. Per Deadline, the online theory held that Reeves was quietly filming two sequels at once — and that it explained why The Batman Part II spent so long in development. Gunn’s answer puts that to rest.
Where The Batman Part II actually stands
The sequel is moving, just not the way the rumor suggested. Reeves returned to the director’s chair at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the UK back in May, and he’s since teased fans with test shots — including glimpses of Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight, the Batmobile, and a snowy winter setting.
So the film is early in production, with Reeves clearly having fun sharing the ramp-up. What it isn’t is a two-movie shoot happening in parallel.
Why “Part III” was always a stretch
It’s worth remembering that The Batman lives in DC’s Elseworlds banner — Reeves’ own standalone corner, separate from the main DCU continuity Gunn and Peter Safran are building. A Part III has been talked about as part of Reeves’ longer vision, but it isn’t in active production, and Gunn’s denial confirms it isn’t being filmed alongside Part II.
What’s next
For now, the focus is squarely on The Batman Part II, which is currently dated for 2027. Reeves is behind the camera, Pattinson’s back under the cowl, and the only thing shooting is the movie fans have been waiting years for. Anything beyond that remains down the road.
