Spider-Man: Brand New Day Scores the Third-Biggest Second Weekend Ever

Spider-Man: Brand New Day didn't just open big — it held. The sequel posted a $145 million second weekend, the third-biggest in history, and pushed past $1.67 billion worldwide.

Big openings are one thing. Holding is another — and Spider-Man: Brand New Day just did both.

In its second weekend, the Sony and Marvel blockbuster earned an estimated $145 million domestically, according to Variety. That’s the third-biggest second weekend in box-office history, and it dropped just 59% from a record-shattering debut.

Only two films have held better

Brand New Day now trails only two titles on that list: Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($149 million) and Avengers: Endgame ($147 million). For a film that opened to an all-time-record $360.1 million, a hold that strong is the real story — huge openings often come with brutal second-weekend collapses.

The result also gives Brand New Day the highest 10-day domestic total in box-office history, with $655 million in North America.

The global picture

Overseas, the film added roughly $236 million, bringing its second-weekend worldwide haul to about $381 million. Its global total now sits at approximately $1.67 billion — and it recently became the second-fastest film ever to cross $1 billion internationally.

To put that in perspective: Brand New Day passed $1 billion worldwide in six days, second only to Endgame. Two weekends in, it’s already among the biggest releases of the decade.

What the hold tells us

A 59% second-weekend drop is unremarkable on its own. What makes it notable is the size of the number it’s dropping from. Falling 59% from $360 million still leaves $145 million — more than most blockbusters make in their opening weekend.

So the audience isn’t just front-loaded on opening-night hype. Strong holds usually signal good word of mouth, repeat viewing, or both. That’s the difference between a big opening and a genuine phenomenon.

What’s next

The numbers above are studio estimates, so final figures may shift slightly when actuals are reported. The bigger question is where Brand New Day lands: Spider-Man: No Way Home finished above $1.9 billion worldwide, and at this pace, Brand New Day is on track to challenge it.

Its third weekend — and whether the hold stays this strong — will tell us how high the ceiling really is.
