UPDATE — Aug. 19, 2026: Sebastian Stan did not confirm that he is playing Harvey Dent in The Batman: Part II. After the quote identifying Stan as Harvey Dent was removed from the original Le Journal du Dimanche interview, TheWrap reported that two insiders said Stan had been misquoted. The French outlet has since corrected the interview, which now only quotes Stan saying he “can’t say anything” about Matt Reeves’ sequel. Stan’s character therefore remains officially unconfirmed. UPDATE — Aug. 18, 2026: After this story was published, Le Journal du Dimanche edited its Sebastian Stan interview and removed the portion of the quote identifying his The Batman: Part II character as Harvey Dent. The live version now quotes Stan only saying that he “can’t say anything” about the film. The outlet has not included a visible explanation for the change. Because the language on which this report was based has been removed from the original source, Stan’s role should once again be considered unconfirmed. [Read our full update here.]
Sebastian Stan has personally confirmed that he is playing Harvey Dent in The Batman: Part II, ending months of conflicting reports about his role in Matt Reeves’ Batman sequel.
Well. That settles that.
Sebastian Stan has officially confirmed that he will play Harvey Dent in Matt Reeves’ The Batman: Part II, putting an end to months of speculation over exactly who the actor is portraying in Gotham.
Speaking with French outlet Le Journal du Dimanche alongside his Fjord co-star Renate Reinsve, Stan briefly addressed the upcoming Batman sequel while discussing the projects ahead of him.
He couldn’t reveal anything about the movie itself, but he did reveal one fairly important detail:
He’s Harvey Dent.
“I can’t say anything about The Batman: Part II either, by Matt Reeves, where I play Harvey Dent,” Stan told the outlet.
That is considerably less ambiguous than what fans have been working with until now.

Sebastian Stan Confirms He Is Harvey Dent in The Batman Part II
Stan’s casting in The Batman: Part II has been known for months, but his character became one of the movie’s biggest unanswered questions.
Harvey Dent was initially the dominant theory, with multiple reports connecting Stan to Gotham’s district attorney and eventual Two-Face. But the situation became considerably messier in June when another report claimed Stan might actually be playing Victor Zsasz, while Brian Tyree Henry could be taking on Harvey Dent instead.
That rumor was enough to throw the casting conversation wide open again.
Now Stan appears to have ended it himself.
There is no coded answer here. No careful “you’ll have to wait and see.” In the JDD interview, Stan simply identifies Harvey Dent as his character.
So unless Matt Reeves has somehow engineered the most elaborate Harvey Dent misdirection imaginable, we can finally call this one:
Sebastian Stan is Harvey Dent.
Does That Mean Two-Face Is Coming?
Eventually? Harvey Dent and Two-Face are inseparable parts of the same character.
But Stan confirming Harvey does not automatically tell us whether Dent becomes Two-Face during The Batman: Part II.
And frankly, that distinction matters.
Matt Reeves’ Gotham has never been in much of a hurry.
The first Batman movie spent its time watching Bruce Wayne evolve rather than immediately delivering the fully formed version of the hero audiences already know. Harvey Dent could receive a similar treatment: establish the man first, then let whatever destroys him happen naturally.
That possibility becomes especially interesting given the kind of psychological character work Stan has gravitated toward.
Harvey Dent works best when Two-Face isn’t simply a villain reveal. He’s tragic because Gotham loses someone who genuinely believed he could fix it.
If Reeves lets us meet that Harvey first, the coin can wait.

Stan Says The Batman: Part II Is the Kind of Movie He Wants to See
Stan didn’t offer any additional plot details, but his comments make his enthusiasm for the project clear.
After identifying his character, he told JDD that part of the appeal of acting is getting to participate in projects of this scale — movies he would also be excited to watch as a fan.
And The Batman: Part II is certainly shaping up to be one of those projects.
Robert Pattinson returns as Bruce Wayne under director Matt Reeves, with Sebastian Stan joining a cast that also includes Scarlett Johansson, Brian Tyree Henry, Charles Dance and Sebastian Koch alongside returning members of Reeves’ Gotham. Reeves officially confirmed Stan among the sequel’s new additions earlier this year.
The sequel is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on February 18, 2028 following its latest release-date shift.
Exactly what Harvey Dent is doing when we get there remains firmly under wraps.
But one mystery is finally dead.
After months of rumors about Harvey Dent, Victor Zsasz and everything in between, Sebastian Stan has given us the answer himself.
Gotham has its Harvey Dent.
