Dune: Awakening’s Free ‘Blood and Ice’ Expansion Lands December 1 With a Frozen New Map

The Polar Sink adds a tundra and ice cap to Arrakis survival, plus an offline mode coming in November.

By October 29, 2026

Arrakis is getting cold. Funcom announced that Dune: Awakening‘s Blood and Ice expansion launches December 1 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox, and it is free for all players on those platforms, according to the studio’s official announcement.

The headline addition is the Polar Sink, a frozen survival map split into two biomes: a tundra and an ice cap. Funcom says the survival focus shifts to staying warm, with new gear, resources found only in the Polar Sink, and ice harvesting that can cool base equipment and speed up production. The studio puts the new progression at about 35 hours and adds vehicle modules, augments and specialization traits.

The announcement also covers what comes next. An offline single-player mode is slated for November 2026, while character copying and full cross-play are planned for January 2027. Funcom is also adding a cosmetics store with optional paid items such as outfits, vehicle variants and base customization, which it says supports the free updates, plus free in-game events including The Scourge and Water Crisis and a new Events tab in the main menu.
