Avengers: Doomsday opens December 18, and the cast list has become a sport of its own. Marvel has put a lot of the roster on record, from the March 2025 chair livestream to the Steve Rogers and Thor teasers and the trailers since. But several of the characters fans are counting on have never actually been confirmed. Here’s where the line sits.
Not confirmed by Marvel
- Spider-Man (Tom Holland). Reported to appear, but Marvel hasn’t included him in any Doomsday cast announcement or marketing.
- Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch). Same situation: reported, never confirmed.
- Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). The closest thing to a yes that isn’t one. After Ruffalo turned up in the new Endgame: Encore scenes, the Russos declined to confirm him for Doomsday while saying Banner is involved in the story around Doom.
- Deadpool and Wolverine (Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman). Reports on Reynolds have conflicted. He and Jackman have done promotional appearances tied to Doomsday that plenty of fans took as confirmation, but Marvel hasn’t announced either character.
- The TVA crew. Owen Wilson’s Mobius and Ke Huy Quan’s Ouroboros, who also appeared in Encore’s new footage, are widely expected but not on Marvel’s announced list.
- Plenty of other favorites. Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye, Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch and Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel haven’t been announced either.
One name you can cross off: Christopher Abbott, Marvel’s new Professor X for the 2028 X-Men film, said in a Rolling Stone interview clip that he isn’t in Doomsday. In this movie, Professor X is Patrick Stewart.
Who Marvel has confirmed
The core lineup: Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson’s Captain America, Sebastian Stan, Florence Pugh, Paul Rudd, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Tenoch Huerta Mejía as Namor and Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres. The Thunderbolts* contingent includes David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Kamen and Lewis Pullman as Sentry.
The Fantastic Four are in: Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. So are the legacy X-Men: Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Kelsey Grammer, Rebecca Romijn and Alan Cumming, plus Channing Tatum as Gambit. Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter is also in the cast.
Later additions came through the trades rather than a Marvel announcement: Kathryn Newton as Cassie Lang (Variety, April) and Sandra Hüller in an undisclosed cameo role (The Hollywood Reporter, Oct. 23).
Why the list keeps moving
Marvel held back its biggest Endgame surprises until opening weekend, and the Doomsday campaign has followed the same playbook, as the World Series teaser showed. Treat any Doomsday cast list, this one included, as a floor rather than a ceiling. We’ll update it as Marvel confirms more.
