Some movie events feel so perfectly themed that holding them anywhere else would seem wrong.
On August 1, fans gathered at Hollywood Forever Cemetery for Cinespia’s sold-out screening of Practical Magic. Before the movie began, Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman surprised the crowd.
Honestly, where else could this reunion have happened?
The 1998 film centers on witches, resurrection, ancestral curses and one extremely inconvenient dead boyfriend. Hollywood Forever did not simply provide a venue. It completed the theme.
Hollywood Forever Was the Only Correct Venue
Cinespia has hosted outdoor movie screenings at Hollywood Forever since 2002. Guests gather on the cemetery lawn while films play against the side of a mausoleum.
The organization often adds DJs, photo booths and special appearances. Still, Practical Magic may rank among its most fitting bookings.
Bullock immediately acknowledged the setting. She called it the perfect place to show the movie and joked about the spirits whose seats the audience had borrowed.
The line fit the evening perfectly.
Fans wore witch hats, packed picnic blankets and brought their love for the Owens family. Then the movie’s original stars appeared among the graves.
Some premieres need a red carpet.
Practical Magic needed a cemetery.
Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman Reunited the Coven
Bullock and Kidman will return as sisters Sally and Gillian Owens in Practical Magic 2.
Kidman thanked fans for supporting the original movie and helping make the sequel possible. The first film earned mixed reviews when it arrived in 1998. Over time, however, audiences turned it into a beloved seasonal classic.
The reunion celebrated that legacy. It also gave fans their first look at the Owens family’s next chapter.
Bullock and Kidman then welcomed Joey King and Maisie Williams to the stage. The two actresses play Sally’s adult daughters, Kylie and Antonia, in the sequel.
King and Williams arrived carrying margaritas.
Of course they did.
The group raised their glasses “to the coven,” giving the audience a real-life version of the movie’s famous midnight margaritas scene.
The Next Generation of Owens Women Has Arrived
The upcoming sequel will bring several members of the original cast back together.
Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest will return as Aunts Franny and Jet. Bullock and Kidman will once again lead the Owens family as Sally and Gillian.
This time, the story will also focus on Sally’s daughters.
Kylie begins to uncover family secrets while developing dangerous abilities of her own. Her discovery forces the Owens women to reunite. Together, they must confront the origins of the curse that has haunted their family for generations.
Susanne Bier directs the sequel.
The new story gives the franchise room to expand without abandoning the relationships that made the original film endure. The Owens women remain at the center. So do the family’s magic, grief and complicated history.
When Does Practical Magic 2 Come Out?
Practical Magic 2 arrives in theaters on September 11, 2026.
The Hollywood Forever event did not serve as the movie’s official premiere. Instead, it celebrated the original film while introducing the sequel’s expanded cast.
That distinction almost makes the night better.
The Owens women did not return inside a traditional theater or polished Hollywood ballroom. They appeared beneath the Los Angeles night sky, surrounded by fans, gravestones and midnight margaritas.
It felt less like a promotional stop and more like a homecoming.
Because when Practical Magic rises again, where else would it go but Hollywood Forever?
