Rosario Dawson Reveals Her ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Cameo Was Cut

Rosario Dawson filmed a surprise return as Claire Temple for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but her cameo never made the final cut.

By August 11, 2026

Rosario Dawson was apparently this close to making her long-awaited return to Marvel as Claire Temple.

The actress revealed that she actually filmed a scene for Spider-Man: Brand New Day — only for the cameo to be cut from the finished movie.

And somehow, Dawson’s mom may have taken the news even harder than Marvel fans.

Rosario Dawson Filmed a Scene for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’

During a GalaxyCon panel in Raleigh, North Carolina, Dawson was asked which superhero she would most like to work with.

Turns out, Spider-Man would have been a pretty easy answer.

“I even shot the scene in the new Spider-Man movie, but I got cut out,” Dawson revealed during the panel.

According to Dawson, her mother’s immediate reaction was:

“That sucks. Now I can’t post the pictures.”

Which is objectively an incredible mom response to finding out your daughter was removed from one of the biggest superhero movies in the world.

Dawson jokingly called herself a “reject of Spider-Man,” but the deleted appearance carried considerably more weight than a random celebrity cameo: she filmed the scene as Claire Temple, the Marvel character she hasn’t played onscreen since 2018.

Claire Temple Was the Glue of Marvel’s Netflix Universe

Before Charlie Cox’s Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin began making their way into Marvel Studios projects, Dawson’s Claire Temple was essentially the connective tissue holding Marvel’s Netflix universe together.

She debuted in Daredevil before appearing across Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders, repeatedly finding herself patching up New York’s increasingly battered collection of vigilantes.

Marvel itself once described Dawson’s Claire as the “glue” connecting those shows.

That makes a Claire Temple appearance in a Spider-Man movie particularly fitting.

The comic-book version of Claire has connections to several street-level Marvel heroes, and Marvel lists Peter Parker among the superheroes she has provided medical care for over the years.

Unfortunately, whatever brought Dawson’s version of Claire into Peter Parker’s orbit didn’t survive the final edit.

Rosario Dawson Still Wants Claire Temple Back

There is one important silver lining here: Marvel clearly hasn’t forgotten Claire Temple exists.

Dawson filming the role at all means the character remains available within the same increasingly connected Marvel universe that has already brought back characters from the Netflix era.

And Dawson absolutely wants another shot.

“Because everybody’s in it, it still means that my character is somewhere in that same universe, and I really love that,” Dawson said. “So I hope I get to be Claire again.”

Honestly? Same.

Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock is back. Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk is back. Jon Bernthal’s Punisher is back.

There is always going to be another catastrophically injured New York vigilante who desperately needs medical attention.

Bring back Claire Temple.
