Spider-Man: Brand New Day has swung into theaters with one of the biggest debuts in box-office history—and helped deliver the largest collective weekend North American cinemas have ever recorded.
The Sony and Marvel Studios film earned an estimated $355 million from the United States and Canada during its opening weekend, according to studio estimates released Sunday. That gives Brand New Day the second-biggest domestic opening of all time, finishing just behind the $357 million debut of Avengers: Endgame in 2019.
International audiences contributed another $572 million, bringing the film’s estimated worldwide opening to $927 million.
That is also the second-largest global debut in box-office history, trailing only the approximately $1.2 billion worldwide launch of Avengers: Endgame.

Spider-Man and The Odyssey Created a Historic Weekend
Although Brand New Day supplied most of the firepower, it was not the only blockbuster drawing audiences to theaters.
Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey earned approximately $51 million domestically during its third weekend, taking second place behind Spider-Man. Together, the two films accounted for roughly 94% of the estimated $430 million earned by all movies in North American theaters over the weekend.
That $430 million total represents the biggest collective domestic box-office weekend ever recorded, according to Rentrak.
The two films also share an unusual connection: Tom Holland and Zendaya appear in both Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey, putting the pair at the center of the two movies driving the historic theatrical weekend.
The Odyssey has now earned approximately $395.5 million domestically and more than $911 million worldwide.
Brand New Day Nearly Beat Avengers: Endgame
Brand New Day came within approximately $2 million of taking the domestic opening-weekend crown from Avengers: Endgame.
The new Spider-Man film did claim the record for the largest domestic opening day, earning an estimated $168 million Friday from 4,487 theaters. That surpassed the $157 million opening day earned by Endgame.
It also easily overtook the previous high point for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man series. Spider-Man: No Way Home opened to $260 million domestically in December 2021, meaning Brand New Day exceeded its predecessor’s launch by approximately $95 million.
The result gives Sony Pictures its largest opening weekend ever.
Approximately 24.1 million people attended the film domestically over the weekend, according to Rentrak estimates.
Spider-Man Opened to $927 Million Worldwide
Internationally, Brand New Day earned approximately $572 million across more than 73,500 screens.
China led the overseas markets with an estimated $121 million, helping push the film’s worldwide total to $927 million after only one weekend.
For comparison, No Way Home opened to approximately $600 million worldwide in 2021 without a release in China. It eventually finished its theatrical run with more than $1.9 billion globally.
The latest film has also brought the entire Spider-Man theatrical franchise close to $10 billion in unadjusted worldwide ticket sales.
A Massive Win for Movie Theaters
The record arrives during a strong summer for theaters, with movies including The Odyssey, Toy Story 5 and now Brand New Day drawing major audiences.
It is particularly notable after years of debate surrounding superhero fatigue. While several recent comic-book releases have struggled to match the genre’s earlier commercial heights, Spider-Man remains one of the most dependable characters at the global box office.
The wider theatrical market has not completely returned to its pre-pandemic level. Domestic box-office revenue for 2026 is currently running approximately 10% ahead of last year but remains 16% below the same point in 2019.
Still, a $430 million weekend demonstrates that audiences will turn out in enormous numbers when multiple films become must-see theatrical events at the same time.
All figures remain Sunday estimates and may change when final weekend totals are reported Monday. Even with small adjustments, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has already secured the second-biggest domestic and worldwide opening of all time—and helped give theaters their largest collective weekend ever.
